Shawn grew up in Riverside, CA, where he attended a high school that had a very underfunded STEM program. Upon arriving at UC Berkeley, he realized just how much he was behind his peers in terms of his STEM foundation. This experience played an integral role in Shawn’s desire to give back to underserved communities and hopefully create a society where everyone has an equal opportunity for higher education.
