Edbert “Eddie” D. Lu

Eddie is an anesthesiology resident physician in Springfield, Massachusetts. During his undergraduate years at UC Berkeley, he was a mentor for underserved high school students (via The Phoenix Scholars and The Music Connection) and made it his personal mission to empower future clinicians, scientists, and innovators. In The Klinman Group, he found mentors that inspired him to pursue research as a scientist, and after graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Molecular & Cell Biology, he went on to become a researcher in a neuro-oncology lab at the University of California, San Francisco, to investigate the tumor micro-environment of neural tumors with the purpose of identifying potential immunotherapy drug targets.

Donning a laboratory coat—and then a white coat—felt like an honor and a privilege to him. “To wear a white coat means to serve my patients with my utmost compassion, scientific knowledge, and clinical experience. To wear the laboratory coat symbolizes my dedication to improving the field of medicine and our understanding of disease to uncover novel therapies for those patients.”
